the New Teacher

Today when I came into the class, I found a new teacher, named Peter. He is a very nice gentleman. He told us that Joseph is in USA now and will come back on September 6, 2011. We all think it is OK and Peter is also a good teacher.
Next Friday, Peter will take us to the Centre Island. I am very happy to hear this news. When I had lunch with my daughter this noon, I told her about the future trip. My daughter is very happy too. Since we came to Toronto on April this year, my daughter had to make new friends. However, she can not understand English. So, it is difficult to make new friends for her and she felt a little lonely. She is very happy to hear of trips.

Receiving Money at school

Hi, mom, it's me. No, I am fine. Really, I am great. It's...well...yeah, OK, it's about money. You are right. I mean who know books would be so expensive. So, kind of running on empty. I would be home for a while, so any help would be really appreciated. Well, it's actually really easy. If you had a computer we can do right now together. OK, first log into online banking. Now look for Interac Email Money Transfer and click. Great. So you know my email. You just type that in and then the amount. I love you, mom. Now think of the security questions, something on those answers too and press "send". It's Interac banking? so it's totally secure.
Oh, hi Dad. Things are great, really good. Daddy, I was wondering, did mommy show you how to do Interac Email Money Transfer?

About Belief

As we all know, in China when children begin to go to school, all the teachers and all the textbooks tell them there are no gods. Political textbooks tell Chinese children that human beings came from monkeys and Darwin's theory of evolution was definitely right. From elementary schools to universities, every child in China was taught that there are no gods or ghosts. That is to say, most Chinese people have no religion and they do not believe in any gods and the Communist Party wants the people to believe only in the Communist Society .

When I first left China and for Chicago, my husband wanted to take me to a church, which he often went to. At that time, I did not want to go to any church because I did not believe in any gods. I definitely thought there were no gods and that human beings came from monkeys. One day my husband and I took our daughter somewhere and we were very late going home. Since we had no car at that time, we rested outside a church. My husband said that it was too late to go home to cook, and there was a church, which he often went to.

Our Family's Physical Check

Yesterday, our family went to see our family doctor because we had made an appointment with him several days ago. Our family doctor gave us a checkup. Our appointment time was 10:45 am, and the doctor told us that my husband and I could not eat that morning because of the blood test. My daughter was very happy on that morning because she could eat breakfast. When we came to the family doctor's location, I felt very hungry and even a little faint. After we had waited a few minutes, the family doctor began to check us one by one. Fortunately, our family's usual check was OK. Then the doctor told us to go to Midland Road to check my husband's and my blood. I heard that in Canada the nurses' skills are not good, so I felt a little afraid to see them. However, the nurse's experience made me feel very safe. When all our checks were finished, we were very happy to go home.

Fun Guide

This summer I registered for swimming programs and a summer camp for my family through the Welcome Policy. The nearest Recreation Swimming Centre is Agincourt RC. There, I helped my daughter to register for a preschool swimming program. My daughter was very happy and had a great time there. Although my daughter still cannot swim after several swimming classes, I think she will learn to swim in the near future. And I think having a fun time is more important than learning swimming for my daughter. I also helped my husband to register for an adult swimming program. At first, my husband did not want to take part in the swimming class because the class time is on Saturday mornings. He wanted to sleep in late on Saturday mornings rather than to get up early to learn swimming. However, after he attended the first class, he is now happy to get up early to learn swimming. At the same time, I registered for an adult swimming program for myself.
The summer holiday is a long time for children, so I helped my daughter to register for a two-week summer camp near my apartment. Now the summer camp is finished, and I think my daughter enjoyed this camp very much.

My Beautiful Pictures

Last Thursday, I went to downtown to attend Caribbean BBQ. The above are our beautiful pictures.
That day the weather is very hot for Canadian. But for me, the temperature is OK because in my hometown the temperature is higher than that day in summer. In the BBQ, I saw very different culture from China. There were many beautiful Caribbean ladies. We took pictures with these ladies. They are good at dancing and singing. And they enjoyed lives very much.

Although I have been near Toronto for three months, I have never gone to the falls. So I want to go to see it very much. I can imagine how wonderful it is. I want to go with my family or my friends together to enjoy this fun time.

The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall is a symbol of Chinese culture. In the north of China, there lies a 6,700-kilometre-long wall.  The Great Wall begins in the west of China and ends in the east. It winds its way across deserts, over mountains, through valleys till it reaches the sea.

The history of the Great Wall has over two thousand years. The first part was the Spring and Autumn Period. In the Warring Period, different kingdoms built different walls. The Qin Dynasty united different kingdoms into one country. At that time, the Grear Wall came into being.

The wall is wide enough for five horses or ten men to walk side by side. There are many watchtowers on the Great Wall. They are spaced out every. Soldiers kept watch on the watchtowers. When enemies came, a fire was lit on the watchtower and the other watchtowers nearby would also light their fires.

One sad legend about the Great Wall is about a lady called Meng Jiangnv. Her husband was recruited by local officials to build the Great Wall. After several years, she heard nothing about her husband. So she decided to look for him. When she came the Great Wall, she found her husband already dead. She cried for ten days and nights and finally her howls made a part of the Great Wall collapse. From this story, we know that the Great Wall was built not only with earth and stone, but also with the fresh and blood of Chinese people.

My First Presentation

Tomorrow, I will make my first presentation in the LINC school. Now I do not know which topic I am going to present. I came to Toronto just three months ago and will reside here for ever. After contacting  persons around me and meeting some difficulties, I have begun to know Canadian society.

First of all, Canada is a country which includes many different cultures, and every year lots of new immigrants will settle in Canada. I am also a new immigrant. I think for new immigrants they need to face plenty of problems, such as looking for housing, adapting to new environments, studying English, looking for jobs and so on.  Among these problems, I think improving English and looking for jobs are the most difficult for most new immigrants.  For example, I met a lady who came from Korea and resided in Canada for 10 years. However, English is also an obstacle for her in communicating with other people in Canada. Therefore, learning English is not an easy thing for some new immigrants.

Although English and jobs are difficult for most new immigrants, many people can pass these two obstacles through hard word. However, how to merge into Canadian society is the most difficult thing for new immigrants, especially for the first generation.

My First Swimming Class

Last Tuesday, I went to the swimming centre to learn swimming. My swimming teacher is a young fellow. He taught four students at a time, and I was one of them. For most of us it was the first time learning how to swim. Since we are a little older than our swimming teacher, we didn't know if he knew how to teach us.

At first, the teacher let us kick water. We were kicking water for a while and soon felt very tired. Then, he let us float on the water with his help. And when we were floating on the water, he let us put our face under the water, which was too difficult for us. Finally, he found out that we could not float well.

Our teacher let us kick water on the rest time of the class. After class, although the lesson only lasted half an hour, I felt very very tired the rest of he day. The following days, my leg and arm muscles hurt very much.

But I will go on learning swimming.

My New Life in Canada

Three months ago, my family came to Canada.
Many things have happend in this three months. One good thing is that my daughter can learn to swim in a nearby pool. Last Saturday I took her to learn swimming at the swimming center. Two young guys are my daughter's swimming teachers. There were two other kids learning swimming with her.

First, swimming teachers helped every kid to float on the water. My daughter was like a fish floating on the water. It's so fun and easy for the kids. Several minutes later, the teachers let the kids stand in the water, and then put some water on every kid's head. My daughter later said it was so funny. At first, I was afraid that she did not understand the swimming teachers' words because she only speaks Chinese. However, I was wrong. I think my daughter understand a little English. I am very glad for her.

Canada Day

Our family went to Ontario lake on July 1, Canada Day.
My husband, my daughter and I together went to the lake.
We had a BBQ in the lake to celebrate Canada Day.
Since we did not come to the Ontario lake, we decided to the lake.
